Kano buries cop killed by gunmen


The remains of the late Superintendent of Police, Dahiru Ibrahim Majia who was killed by gunmen Monday night was committed to mother earth at the Tarauni cemetery, Kano, northwest Nigeria Tuesday with huge crowd of sympathizers, mostly his colleagues who were all in tears.

He was described as a humble and disciplined officer.
His brother, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Magaji Majiya, who is Kano Command’s spokesman was speechless, “it is Allah’s wish,” he could only say.
Dahiru who got married a week ago to the daughter of business mogul, Dahiru Mangal, was buried at 9 a.m.
The state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Musa A. Daura during a Press Conference at his office Tuesday evening described Dahiru’s death as, “unfortunate and a huge loss to the Kano state Police Command.”
He said, “a reasonable number of arrests was made immediately after the incident—and we have commenced investigation; after investigation, we will call you and let you know the outcome.”

Narrating the incident, CP Daura said: “on 25 February, 2013, at about 8 p.m., unknown gunmen ambushed the Commanding Officer, Mopol 9 Hotoro, Kano, SP Dahiru Ibrahim Majia while returning home from office at Sabuwar Gandu Quarters, Kano.
“The assailants opened fire sporadically on the officer, killing him instantly. On hearing the gunshots, Police men were immediately deployed for cordon and search in the area as a result of which some suspects were arrested and are undergoing investigation and screening.
“The Command will thoroughly investigate the matter to its logical conclusion with a view to fish out the perpetrators of this dastardly act. We further urge members of the public to continue cooperating with the Command in its battle against terrorism and criminal activities in the state by providing relevant and timely information through our 24 hours emergency lines which are 08032419754, 08123821575, 064977004, 06497705 and 08099831808,” Daura stated.
