EFCC Re-arrests Rogue Banker, Erastus Akingbola

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has re- arrested former managing director of Intercontinental Bank Plc( now Access Bank Plc), Mr. Erastus Akingbola. He is currently being held at the Commission’s facility in Ikoyi, Lagos, preparatory to his arraignment in court tomorrow, February 26, 2013 before Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo of the Lagos High Court on fresh charges of stealing.
The re-arraignment is sequel to the elevation of the former trial judge, Justice Habeeb Abiru of the Lagos High Court to the Court of Appeal few days before he delivered ruling in the case. Akingbola was first arrested and charged before a federal high court , Lagos in 2010 for stealing over N49 billion from depositors funds as MD of Intercontinental Bank. He allegedly stole the money using his wife, Anthonia and his associate, Bayo Dada.
The case has suffered several setbacks due to the complicity of some corrupt judges, one of who was recommended for sack last week by the National Judicial Council, NJC. President Jonathan has already approved the sack of Justice Charles Achibong who dismissed Akingbola’s trial last year.
