Pathetic Story of Victoria, She was Tortured, Labelled a Witch

She is 9 years old and terrifically intelligent. Her father works at the National Headquarters in INEC while her mum stays in Akwa Ibom, both having separated way back. In effect, she is from Akwa Ibom. However, she currently lives in a motherless babies home at Karu in the outskirts of Abuja.
I came upon her story in the course of offering free legal services to a public interest radio program called BEREKETE, which used to air on Kiss FM, but now domiciled in Love FM. She had been cut adrift by her father and his current wife, from Kogi, who held the belief that she was afflicted with witchcraft. They subjected her to sordid ordeals, including waking her up in the dead of the night, lighting candles all around her, forcing her to stand nude in the middle of a circle drawn on the floor with native chalk while ringing bells and chanting, all ostensibly meant to exorcize her.

He is currently being held at the Commission’s facility in Ikoyi, Lagos, preparatory to his arraignment in court tomorrow, February 26, 2013 before Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo of the Lagos High Court on fresh charges of stealing.
The re-arraignment is sequel to the elevation of the former trial judge, Justice Habeeb Abiru of the Lagos High Court to the Court of Appeal few days before he delivered ruling in the case. Akingbola was first arrested and charged before a federal high court , Lagos in 2010 for stealing over N49 billion from depositors funds as MD of Intercontinental Bank. He allegedly stole the money using his wife, Anthonia and his associate, Bayo Dada.

Relationship That Worth Leaving

Sometimes it's better to be alone than being with someone who makes you feel alone. Someone who doesn't return your love, someone who doesn't appreciate your effort, someone who takes you for granted, someone who sees no value in your care, someone who doesn't love you for who you are, someone who doesn't spare time for you, someone who always makes you cry, someone who always accuses you for being wrong...

If you are in a relationship with such a person, think of letting go no matter how painful it may be. Such people only care about their heart desires but they never mind of how you feel, what you need and what makes you happy... Be strong and move on, that person was not meant to be the love of your life trust me. He or she is a time waster in your life; He or she will never change. That person’s happiness is when you fulfil what he or she wants but for them they will never mind about your heart pain. Think about it and ask yourself if you prefer to be treated that way or that is how you prefer to live your life?

Sex Toys Are They Good or Bad

The vital question is sex toys good or bad for your marriage. And in your opinion or as an African do you agree with this? I guess it all depends on your marriage and how open you are with each other. One would hope that your marriage is strong and secure. That sex toys or sex in general is fun and exciting. Sex toys are not to replace anyone but to add to your sex life. As your marriage matures and you have been with the same person for many years a little spice to your sex life keeps things alive. I think sex toys are fun and add to your bedroom play. I would love to hear what others think about it good or bad.

'That was embarrassing!' Jennifer Lawrence trips and falls as she climbs the steps to accept her Best Actress Oscar

Winning an Oscar for Best Actress is beyond doubt the biggest moment of any star's career.
But Jennifer Lawrence distracted somewhat from the honour by tripping up the stairs as she headed onto the stage to accept her Academy Award.
The 22-year-old star, who won for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, was seen momentarily hanging her head in her hands after her voluminous strapless Dior Haute Couture gown caused the mishap on the steps.
As she got back onto her feet, the star-studded audience gave the actress a standing ovation - much to the actress' embarrassment.
Despite her initial blushes, Jennifer quickly laughed off the incident and began her stream of thank you.
At the Screen Actor's Guild Awards earlier this year, Jennifer's midnight blue Dior gown appeared to fall apart as she climbed the stairs.

Ghanaian footballer, Paintsil, stabbed wife, assaulted neighbour

Ghanaian defender, John Paintsil, not only stabbed his wife, but assaulted a neighbour, the police have said.
Paintsil, a former Fulham, West Ham and Leicester City defender, was arrested by the police in Ghana for stabbing his wife on Friday.
The shocking development comes when the sporting world is yet to come to terms with the murder allegations against another sports celebrity, the Blade Runner, Oscar Pistorius, who only on Friday secured a controversial bail plea after it was confirmed he shot his girlfriend (albeit unknowingly) to death.
An Accra police spokesman, Freeman Tettey, in an interview with BBC Sport confirmed the assault and arrest of the Ghanaian defender.
“The information available to us is that he stabbed his wife in the upper eyelid, so we had to quickly rescue the wife and send her to hospital. For now, he is in our custody and we are in the investigation process.
“We are holding him for causing bodily harm to his wife and for assaulting his neighbour,” Tettey told BBC Sport.
According to the police spokesman, the wife had scaled a fence to a neighbour’s house in search of protection, but the former Fulham man followed suit and in the process assaulted the neighbour too.
“The wife scaled a wall to a neighbour’s house for protection and immediately Paintsil also pursued her, came to the neighbour’s house, gave him (neighbour) some slaps and threatened to shoot him.
“That scared the gentleman who rushed to the police to lodge a complaint,” Tettey added.
Tettey, who made no clear statement on the health of Paintsil’s wife, Richlove, said police can keep the long-standing international for no longer than 48 hours before deciding whether to charge him.
“She collapsed, which suggests she is in a critical condition but for now we don’t know her current state. When she is stable, we can start taking statements from her.
“By Sunday night, we should have conducted our preliminary enquiry ahead of possibly giving a court something to look at on Monday,” the spokesman explained.
The spokesperson said the woman is receiving hospital treatment for serious eye wounds after collapsing following the assault.
Paintsil was part of the Ghana 2006 and 2010 soccer World Cup squads; and also part of the team that finished fourth this month behind Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Mali at the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Man had sex with his 11 years Old daughter

A man had had sex with his 11-year-old daughter after forcing her to watch a pornographic VCD and molested her until she began secondary school, a court heard yesterday.
The father has pleaded not guilty to one count of incest with a daughter younger than 13.
Prosecutor Laura Ng alleged the assaults started in the months after the girl began her Primary Five studies in September 1998.
The father allegedly called her into the bedroom while she was studying and told her to sit on the bed and watch a VCD with him.
The movie was pornographic and as it played he moved closer and closer to his daughter, hugging her and trying to kiss her before eventually removing their trousers and having sex.
'She was very scared,' Ms Ng said. '[She] shouted for help but she was ignored.'
The girl later found blood in her pants and had a shower, after which her father had warned her not to say anything.
Ms Ng alleged the assault was repeated around Lunar New Year the following year and the father continued touching the girl until she began secondary school.
The girl, who is now almost 18 and living in the care of the Po Leung Kuk, moved in with her father and younger sister and brother in April 1998 after coming from the mainland.
No complaint was made to police until June last year, when one of the girl's teachers noticed her crying outside the school.
She had asked why the girl was sad and when she mentioned that her father was an 'immoral' man she had taken her to the school social worker, who notified police.
In a tape-recorded interview played to the court yesterday, the girl alleged that other family members had warned her about her father and told her to lock the door when she was on the toilet.
She said her father was always telling her she was very beautiful. She said she had started over-eating in an effort to put on weight and avoid his attentions.
The trial continues tomorrow.

As a female can you marry your father in-law?

Absolutely! And it’s a question anthropologists love to hear asked. The chances are, you've heard of polygamy, polyandry's better-known cousin: Mormons used to do it; Saudi Muslims can get away with it. Heck, relatively speaking, having a gaggle of wives is downright commonplace. But a woman having five husbands? Well, in Tibet, where a father and his sons could share the same wife, it was the custom for centuries!

Today, anthropologists suggest it was a matter of necessity. Because female infanticide was prevalent, there weren't a lot of women to go around, and because there isn't a lot of arable land in mountainous Tibet, polyandry kept the birth rate — and the starvation rate — low. Of course, when the Chinese invaded in 1950, they put the kebosh on such non-traditional forms of marriage, and Tibetans have led the monogamous life ever since.

IBB, Dasuki on terrorists’ hit list

Gen. Babanjida
The State Security Service (SSS) yesterday paraded three suspects allegedly linked to espionage and terrorist activities with the backing of some Iranian fundamentalists.SSS spokesperson Marilyn Ogar named the main suspect as Abdullahi Mustapha Berende, who trained in modern Shi’a Islamic teaching (Da’ awa) at the Imam Khomeni University, Iran.
Investigation by the SSS revealed that Berende was recruited by some Iranian elements when he returned to Iran for further studies in 2011 and was trained in the use of AK 47 assault riffle, pistols, production and detonation of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDDs).
Berende, who hails from Ilorin, Kwara State, told reporters yesterday that his Iranian sponsors did not disclose their mission to him initially.
According to him, his Iranian sponsors approached him with an offer to assist him set up a business in Lagos, with an outlet in Ilorin. He was invited to Dubai in the United Arab Emirate for a briefing in 2012.
Berende added that it was in Dubai that he as asked to establish a terrorist cell in southwestern Nigeria, with emphasis on Lagos where he was detailed to identify and gather intelligence on specific corporate and individual targets for attack.
Berende listed some of the individual targets as former military President, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida and the deposed Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki. He listed other targets as United States Aids Agency (USAID), Max, Zim International Shipping Company, A. A. Consulting, Peace Corps and the Jewish Cultural Centre (Chabad), all in Lagos.
He said his Iranian sponsors were particular about Lagos because the Israelis have an intelligence facility there, which they employ in spying on Iran. According to him, codes were invented to secure communication with his sponsors. Israel was coded “Uncle”. The US was coded “Aunt”.
The suspect claimed to have personally taken photographs of the Israeli Cultural Centre in Ikoyi, Lagos which he sent to his sponsors after which he was asked to establish a business in Lagos to serve as cover for his operations.
The SSS disclosed that Berende collected $4,000 upon completion of training, 3, 500 Euros in April, 2012 at a meeting in Dubai; and $20, 000.
Giving a breakdown of how the $20, 000 dollars was to be spent, the suspect said $10, 000 was for his relocation from Ilorin to Lagos, furnishing a house, and renting a shop for his business. He was to spend $5,000 on his visa processing and $5,000 for his upkeep.
In the course of carrying out surveillance, Berende said he engaged the services of three other local accomplices – Sulaiman Olayinka Saka, Saheed Aderemi Adewumi and Bunyamin Yusuf.
The SSS arrested Saka and Adewumi, Yusuf is at large.
Berende, who said he was still writing his Masters Degree thesis at the University of Ilorin, however, denied any link with Al-Qada or Boko Haram.
He described his involvement in the operations as regrettable and embarrassing, saying that he never meant to do anything that could betray his country.
“Everybody must watch it because there are many gullible people out there who get trapped with promises of assistance. I regret my role because it is very embarrassing. I never meant to betray my country.
“I mentioned some names to my Iranian handlers from information given by the guy I put on surveillance. But I later found out that the information could be harmful to my country.
“I plead with the people around me, my family and the entire Nigerian people to forgive me and overlook the incident. If given the chance, I will contribute to the development of this country,” the suspect stated.
Ms Ogar said Berende, 50, was arrested in December 2012, following a painstaking investigation that lasted six months.
“From the foregoing, there is conclusive evidence that Berende, in collaboration with his Iranian handlers, was involved in grievous crimes against the national security of this country. Accordingly, he and his accomplices will be charged to court soon,” she said, adding:
“The safety of Nigeria is our collective responsibility. We, therefore, enjoin fellow Nigerians to collaborate with security agencies as we strive to protect our nation from the antics of terrorists within and outside our shores. Let’s collectively remain vigilant and report suspicious individuals and activities to security agencies.”

Man Escapes Death For Buying Human Hair For Rituals

The residents. Inset, Okunade
What exactly will make a man go from a salon to salon collecting people’s hair in exchange for money?

This is a question that only a 60-year-old man, Adewale Okunade, a landlord of a house on Segun Olatunji Street, Ijoko, Ota, Ogun State, has its answer.
Okunade, who hails from Oyo State, narrowly escaped being lynched on Thursday when some people in the neighbourhood pounced on him.
They alleged that the hair was being taken to an herbalist in Cotonou, Republic of Benin, who uses it to prepare charms for him.
Some people said they found Okunade’s behaviour bizarre, insisting that there was more to his action.
It was gathered that the man had been in the business for some years but nemesis caught up with him on the fateful day when his ‘business partner’, a bricklayer, gave him away.
An executive member of the Community Development Association said Okunade allegedly confessed that he had been buying human hair.
According to the CDA executive, the victim said he had been using the hair to cure himself of festering sores on his leg.
He said the suspect denied the hair was meant for rituals, saying he used to take the hair to an herbalist to prepare concoctions for his sores.
He said many traditional medicine practitioners who were there when Okunade was apprehended, said human hair could only be used for rituals not for curing sores.
He said, “The suspect’s partner had gone to a barber in their neighbourhood to buy some hair. The barber, however, refused. The suspect sent his partner to go to the barber’s apprentice.
“When they got to the apprentice, he agreed, but unknown to them that the barber was monitoring their movement. The barber decided to lay ambush for them.
“When he (barber) saw them with a cellophane bag, he raised the alarm and  many people in the neighbourhood were drawn to the scene. By the time they checked the contents in the bag, they saw plenty of human hair.
“That was how the community pounced on his partner and started questioning him about the source of the hair. It was in the course of that the partner said it was Okunade who sent him.
“The people moved to Okunade’s house but he was not around. When he came back and people related the incident to him, he left the community the following day.
“By the time he came back, he thought the residents would have forgotten about the incident, but when they saw him, they mobbed him. It was then he explained that he had sores on his leg that refused to heal and that he had been curing them with concoction mixed with human hair.
“The community, not satisfied with his explanation, decided to hand him over to the police at Sango Police Station.”
Another resident, who craved anonymity, said, “We have yet to come to terms with his pedestrian explanation. As for us, he is not saying the whole truth.
“We learnt that he pays between N200,000 and N300,000 for each consignment of hair. You can see that his explanation lacks the essential elements of truth. I am also amazed that human hair has become a cure for sores.”
The spokesman for Ogun State Police Command, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, said the story was twisted by the community.
He said the suspect had only solicited for hair because of his festering sores.
Adejobi said, “The story was not like that. The man (Okunade) has a sore and he said he needed human hair to cure the sore. He had not gotten the hair; he only solicited. The community just raised the alarm which resulted in the man’s car being vandalised.

“He reported to the police that his car was being vandalised and that they wanted to kill him. That was how the police mediated to avoid the man being lynched.”

Daughter exposes father whose gang killed four policemen

Lagos police boss, Umar Manko

A17-year-old girl identified simply as Simi has exposed the hiding place of her robber father to the officials of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, Lagos State Police Command.

Her father, Ife, was the alleged leader of a 10-man robbery gang that killed four policemen in Ajah during a robbery operation two weeks ago.

THE PUNCH had reported on January 15, 2012 that the dead policemen were responding to a distress call when they were ambushed by the robbers.

Simi did not give her father up easily. She gave the information the police needed to arrest her father after a four-hour non-stop interrogation.

Ironically, it was the love that Ife’s wife, Taiye, had for her daughter that first alerted the police to the existence of the daughter.

On the day that the gang killed the policemen, they left the area in a hurry. In their haste, Ife accidentally dropped his handset.

The police downloaded the numbers on the phone and after a thorough screening, they were able to get the telephone number belonging to Taiye. They subsequently tagged the number.

Meanwhile, Taiye has a frozen food and drinks shop at Sola Arodoye Street, Ijaye, Lagos. A resident in the community told PUNCH Metro that Taye had not been coming to the shop for about two weeks.

She said, “We noticed that she stopped coming to the shop for a while. Even Ife was absent at that period of time. It was Simi who was left to run the shop. Taye had introduced Simi to us as her younger sister. It wasn’t until her arrest last week that we knew that Simi was her daughter.”

Ife and his wife were said to have switched off both their phones and afterwards fled Lagos. But last week Thursday, Taye finally made a call with her phone to check on Simi. She called on one Funke, who lives close to the shop to give the phone to Simi so she could speak with her.

Two hours after that call was made, some SARS operatives traced Funke to her place of work at a nearby school and arrested her.

A police source said, “Funke was interrogated for more than five hours. The SARS operatives thought she was a member of the gang too. Eventually they discovered she knew nothing about Ife except as a neighbour. It was Funke who led the SARS operatives to Taye’s shop at Sola Arodoye street.”

The team then arrested Simi after Funke identified her and took her to Ojokoro Police Division.

For four hours, Simi repeatedly denied knowledge of her parents’ whereabouts. When the police showed no intention of stopping the interrogation, she eventually agreed to cooperate with the SARS team.

The team accompanied the teenager to her parents’ home at Beckley estate, U-turn bus stop at Abule Egba. Ife and Taye had just returned from Abeokuta where they had fled to.

The source said, “Ife tried to escape but was shot in the process. In his wife’s travelling box were hidden two pistols, one AK 47 rifle and a locally made double barrelled gun. Clearly, Taye was aware that Ife was an armed robber.”

One of the residents at Sola Arodoye said they thought that Ife was a worker with a paint manufacturing company.

She said, “Some of us had often wondered what Ife did for a living because he was usually at his wife’s shop all day till she closed at night. Those who dared to ask said Taye had told them Ife worked in his father’s paint company.”

The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ngozi Braide, when contacted said some arrests had been made.

Braide said, “Ife was actually arrested last week. Efforts are being made to apprehend other members of his gang on the run.

“Ife was also involved in a Thermocool robbery in 2011. He has been on the command’s wanted list for years.”
